Question:
Rachel, I know you must have so many messages, so please do not feel you need to respond to mine!! I only wanted to let you know that I think of you all each and every day, hoping that you are all getting stronger by the day. I put you in every prayer! Take Care Rachel! Darlene (NJ)
Response:
Hi all, Thanks for all the wonderful email I have gotten. I am still in the process of answering it, so please don’t give up on me yet! I am recovering slowly, but was rehospitalized last week with a high fever and a nasty infection. Fun, fun. I will be on IV antibiotics for another 8 days, but am home again. (Or is the NICU home now??) The boys are fairly stable right now, but Colin had surgery last Monday for a perforated bowel. He had to have an ostomy put in, but that will be put back together before he goes home. He also had surgery Saturday to repair the duct from the heart that is supposed to close after birth. His had almost closed with the medication (enough so that it would not be a problem anyway) but had reopened after his ostomy surgery. Duncan had surgery on Friday to have a reservoir installed so they can draw spinal fluid off his brain (it is building up there due to the hemorrhage he has). Looks like his brain damage from the hemorrhage will be more severe than we had orignally thought. :-( He also had surgery on Sunday for a perforated bowel, but he did not have to have an ostomy as Colin did, they just repaired the hole. Both boys have yeast infections in their blood, which is apparently pretty serious in preemies. So, we are not out of the woods yet, and there is still a looooong road ahead of us. I would appreciate all the prayers that can be spared right now. And I do wish everyone the best of luck! Miss you all, but hopefully someday will have time to catch up with the group again! Hugs and love, Rachel Browne
