Sexual side effects from UC meds
Question:
This is not at all unusual. Anyone with a chronic illness is prone to diminished sexual desire and changes in performance. I’ve had CD for over 30 years, worked with thousands of patients with IBD as well as other conditions and this is common no matter what the disease. I am also involved with dialysis and transplant patients and one of the systems put in place in dialysis centers and in every program when there are National Kidney Foundation state or regional meetings there is a speaker on sexuality in end stage renal disease. Take a look in the various books by CCFA or the ostomy associations – there is usual a cheaper on sexuality. With the physical implications of any disease, the emotional and psychological impact as well as the side effects of medications it would be strange if sexuality was not effected. Understanding the normalcy of this effect is important. There are psychologists who deal with helping those living with chronicity of any type. Sexuality, at the core of our being, must be dealt with. It can be a tremendously comforting component of our life in helping us deal with our condition if handled correctly. If ignored and allowed to spiral downward something that can help us feel good about ourselves can become a negative component of a life already having difficulty coping with the burdens of disease. — Pearl L
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’ve been using Rowasa, Asacol, went through one cycle of Prednisone and periodic Hydrocortisone enemas over the last year to treat proctitus/UC. I have noticed what used to be a strong sexual drive to be greatly reduced. Even function isn’s what it used to be. Im just wondering if other men (I’m 39) have experienced the same thing. Is it the meds? The disease? Or maybe just my age catching up with me. Any input would be appreciated. thanks
