Getting Pissed Off.

Question:

I love it!!  I don’t feel so all alone now for sure!!  Those Hollister things they gave away to start with were really a NIGHTMARE. A guy at the place I bought supplies turned me on to Stomahesive 2-piece and then the Durahesive, which I love.  Wonder why they started us with such stuff – almost like trying to tell us it was gonna be bad.  And then in the hospital again, I got a sample of NoSting.  Just a sample, enough to make me feel like I was getting tortured when I had to go back to Skin Prep!  But after all these years, things are good and I shouldn’t complain.  It’s nice to watch the way some things change…and others don’t! libbydoo Dick Elliott <bud…@earthlink.net> wrote in message

I have one solution…. when I had my ileostomy I was allergic to all the adhesives so I found spraying Benadryl spray (available in the USA) on the clean skin then letting it dry THEN applying the adhesive worked wonders! Most ET’s don’t advocate it but when your skin is raw, believe me anything that helps, even if unconvential, must be tried! BTW, I had the ileostomy for a year while waiting for the J pouch procedure to be completed. Hi Neil: Have you thought of trying another brand for the two piece? I wear a two-piece Natura Convatec. Have you also tried the mini pouches for things like intimacy and swimming? You just snap off the larger pouch and snap on the mini.  You can get them at your regular medical supply store. You are not alone. I had such a bad reaction to stomahesive paste that I had to have my stoma moved to the other side! We didn’t figure out it was the stomahesive until 5 years later. You have figured out what is wrong and that’s the first step to getting things right. It will be hard to get things to stick until you get rid of the rash. Focus on that first and don’t worry about wear time. Once you get rid of the rash you can find a good fitting appliance and get longer wear time again. Me again, thanks for all your suggestions. I will tried a few of them out. My stoma nurse is coming back next week so we will see if things have improved then. For now I went back to a Salts potective wafer then stuck the rest on that. Seems much better. I have some Coloplast samples as well so I may give them a try. Its just a right pisser when you like a product and then all of a sudden for no reason your body goes, "nope don’t like that, your not getting to use that any more" Another thing has anybody had probs with their ahem, tail end wound healing? I have to go back into hospital soon fur a wee op to stop things  form leaking, bleeding(not alot mind), and other such nasties. What I don’t understand is that all that was there has gone, what the heck is there to form sinusy thingies? Despite alll of these things I have never felt better and am glade I had the op so don’t worry out there, I’m actually very happy. Speak to you all later Neil – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Response:

I assume from your post that your entire rectum was removed.  It is common for that wound to take a long time to heal.  Mine was months and months, and I’m generally a quick healer.  If you needed some corrective surgery, there must have been a fistula through to your abdominal cavity  which would be a two way passage, and a handy route for "nasties" to get in and cause more problems. Glad you are feeling much better, and hope the skin problems go away soon. Sort of true, Carl mate. I had a fistula from bowel to bladder, hence the op but I was sick of everthing and being only 24 I opted for a complete panproctocolotectomy.  I did have some absess things going on in the rectum area mind you, which could be the source of the minor trouble at the moment. However I’m on flagyl anti-bio at the moment and that seems to have dried things up slightly. See ya Neil Carl White <cwort…@gvi.net> wrote in message

Oh, feckin’ ‘ell could things possible get any worse. Anybody had this before: Around their stoma the skin has developed a rash and also a little ulser. My stoma nurse says that I have become allergic to the Dansac Invent 2 piece pouches that I use. This is bad cos  I really like them. She sent me some Orahesive powder for the ulser, some Chiron barrier cream and some Granuflex protective wafers things. Well the wafer lasted about a two days and sprung a very small leak. Now nothing seem to want to stick to my skin. Too much barrier cream, I dunno, but I only use a wee drop. The only thing that wants to stick is the bloody flange from Dansac that I’m allergic too, brilliant, just brilliant. However I fished out some old wafers from Salts and stuck that on then the flange on top of that. Not sure if it will stick. Not looking forward to work tomorrow. Anybody got any good suggestions before I go nuts. Neil (Illeostomist fur only 4 months and now everything is going pear shaped)

Response:

If it was me, I’d put just a spot creme on the ulcer, dust just the spot with stomahesive powder and cover it with a tiny duoderm patch. I’d have everything else clean and dry. Then, I’d get me an Eakin Seal and stick it on. Then, I’d stick on any old wafer I had handy and pray for the best. (Oh, yeah, and I’d wear a belt, too.) Best of luck.

Hello Neil. Been an Ileostomate for 25yrs. About your problem: Been there done that. My first device was a hollister karya ring. What a piece of junk. Tried several other products till I tried convatec two piece 24 yrs ago. Still using the same product. Have only had a few bumps along the road of life with convatec. Works great for running, swimming, golf, biking, hiking, hunting, camping, and 20 years of Karate, and life’s best nerve pill – sex. Only I have to wear boxer shorts for sex. The only reason is to keep the damn thing from getting in the way. If I remember in time i go get a closed pouch. But after 24 yrs with the same women my memory slips. We had only one accident during our intimate encounters and Jon was born 16 yrs ago. The pouch came off only once……her fault…..to excited!!!!! Do not let your ostomy stand in the way of a fun life. Look that little stoma in eye (not too close though) and tell it you are in charge. Try the convatec. Good luck……Dick Elliott – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Neil Buchanan wrote: > Oh, feckin’ ‘ell could things possible get any worse. > Anybody had this before: > Around their stoma the skin has developed a rash and also a little ulser.
