Here's a question for everyone

Question:

O.k.  I”m not clear on this…I"ll ask the drs. but I don’t have an appt. for awhile.  Here goes…if your rectum is gone and you’re sewed up can ANYTHING still get out?  Does that mucus like stuff come out or can’t that happen?  And how far up is it usually closed off?  Having some female problems, as I do, it’s hard to tell sometimes where exactly stuff is coming from. Susan

Response:

Susan, I have the same questions about the rectum being closed off and where the stuff is coming from.  I had the rectal stump removed in Sept. and for a while I thought the stuff was coming from the healing wound but it wasn’t so I thought maybe I had a fistula from the rectum area to the vaginal area. How did they close the original opening?  Did they make another incision to make it bigger to get in there?  I haven’t had the guts to pull out the packing I still have put in there daily because I’m not completely healed and look with a magnifying mirror to see what is there.  Let me know please. Hi – with the rectm gone and the wound still slightly open you can get a discharge. this is from the raw flesh and tissue inside weeping and discharging. once the wound is healed fully the weeping has usually long stopped. Once the wound is healed no further discharge should be happening unless from the wound scar itself (like an infection or something similar). The mucous discharge that you get when the rectum is still in place will not longer happen as this muscous is discharged by the rectum itseflf and colon itself to help grease the wheels and keep the stool moving. it cannot tellt he rectum is no longer used and thus it continues to produce the mucous until it is removed from the body totally. I’m a guy so I’m afraid I cannot comment on the female side of things that you mention, but i’m sure someone here might be able to help you , and its certainly wise to get it checked by your srgeon or doctor as it’s always better to be safer rather than sorry. :o ) I’m sure it#ll all be nothing to worry about though :o ) take care. — Bye now, Jason +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Webmaster and colostomist: www.ostomy.fsnet.co.uk – 200,000+ hits and we’re still standing. —————————————————————– ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI! ……………………………………………..~o^=o> "bch m8" <dc…@webtv.net> wrote in message

Assuming there’s no difference from being sewn up tightly for a man and a woman, once things are healed, the answer is no. I’ve had nothing even approaching a discharge for six years, although it could still get sweaty and smelly in there is I weren’t careful with my hygiene. — Bill

Response:

Dear Susan, After my rectum was removed I had discharge for about 7 weeks.  That was over 2 years ago and have had no discharge since.  How long is it since you had yours removed? Lesley.

Response:

When the rectum is removed the internal "tube" which was the rectum, sigmoid, etc. was taken out and the end that was left formed the stoma. There is no chance that any intestinal discharge would be coming out unlkess there is a fistula. — Pearl L pearle…@hotmail.com "lesley lumsley" <lally_d…@alex51.fsbusiness.co.uk> wrote in message
