In addition to the good advice others have given, I have a card, which explains in eight languages, my medical condition.  It says why I can’t be subjected to a rectal search and what the contents of the bag on my belly are (open at your own risk).  It’s signed by my (former) doctor. Having said that, I’ve never had any problem, and never needed it! — Bill

I’m flying from UK via Iceland to St Paul Minneapolis.  My brother married an American and I’m visiting for the first time.  I haven’t flown since my ileo.  I have never been to USA before and I’m really looking forward to the trip.  Thanks to you all for advice. Oh, good advice, Rob.  :-} Regards, Lesley.

Response:

Hi Lesley, I fly all the time without problem. I carry some ostomy supplies with me as carryon in the event baggage gets lost. I also carry a spare clip on me and an elastic too. The elastic can be used as a clip. You never know when you will lose the clip!! Remember to drinks fluids, airplanes are really dry. I use a small bottle of water (poured into the mouth of the bag) to facilitate emptying. I haven’t noticed any effects from cabin pressure. Enjoyi the flight! Hello Lesley. Do not worry about flying bothering your ostomy. But do not forget to carry extra stuff with you on the plane for that "emergency moment". Many of us ileosotmates have traveled all over the world with no apparent effect on the stoma, pouch, or wafer. Enjoy your flight! An Ostomy Is For Living!! i flew to minneapolis in march.  other than the fact it was COLD in march, i had NO problems. :)  have fun! Lauren! (take out the "nojunk" to reply) beer drinking, sax playing, baseball junkie on a rampage … beware!

Response:

Lesley, Set your mind to rest about cabin pressure.  All commercial flights are pressurized to an 8,000 foot level and hold there.  Very few problems arise with that pressurization.  As for customs (I assume you are coming into the US) I have never heard of anyone having a problem coming through.  If there are questions regarding your supplies (which you definitely DO NOT want to ship in hold baggage), explain what they are for.  If you aren’t believed, I suspect inviting a customs official to come closer and letting them look will satisfy the matter. If you want to feel really assured though, have your physician write up a statement for you. Enjoy Minneapolis… PcolaPhil Do what’s right.  You’ll please some people and amaze everyone se.   – - Mark Twain "lesley lumsley" <lally_d…@alex51.fsbusiness.co.uk> wrote in message

I’ve never had any trouble flying. I carry my appliances with me. I don’t want them to be lost in case my luggage is. They go right through the scanner and never a question. — Pearl. L pearle…@hotmail.com "lesley lumsley" <lally_d…@alex51.fsbusiness.co.uk> wrote in message
