Only thing I know on this, is to VERY careful about some other sugars that you may run across, while you try to eliminate regular sugar! A product called Manitol (sp?) and another one called Sorbitol, which is very commonly used in sugarless candies, will give many people a bad case of the Shi*s. Being a Diabetic, it is often talked about, as a classic "clean you out the hard way" problem with Maintol or Sorbitol. Again, common in sugarless stuff. Take a look at the content labels— Susan, I’d be real careful of these if you are trying to slow down the peristalsis (motion) going on in the intestines. Best to you— You sure been down a long, hard road——-Keep fighting—;-) Best— Ron Gould

Hi Susan Yes, I try and miss out on ‘cane’ sugar – on cereals, on doughnuts etc. I find that type of sugar causes fermentation in the gut (with me anyway) which then causes excess gas etc etc. I replace with glucose powder – which is ok (for me) Regards Ian

Hi Susan. Nutrition is the key. Sugar is in just about everything processed for consumption now-a-days. Personaly sugar is a danger to me. I am not diabetic but when I drink a fountain coke, too much sugar on my breakfast food, candy rich in sugar, and snack food loaded with sugar I get a quick high and then a real fast downer. The downer part puts me down fast. Chils, sweats, and almost passing out. Thought I was having a heart attack when it first started but doc says it was the sugar intake…so I watch how much sugar I take in all the time now. About losing the weight. Try eating a POWER BAR, or a bag of tuna fish for lunch, and water for your drink. You should have several small meals every day and the "several mini meals" will work better and provide you the necessary calories each day while losing weight. Try eating fruits before noon because fresh fruits and processed fruits have sugar in them, so no fruits after noon. Do eat plenty of meats cooked real good! Half a baked potatoe instead of a whole one and try half a bun, bread, or pastry. This is the "diet" I use and my weight has gone from 260 to 200 and I am still loosing weight. My energy levels and staminia has increased also. Any way good luck and remeber: An Ostomy Is For Living!!!
