Ostomy and Wisdom Teeth!!

Categories: lIleostomy

Question:

Group,     I am scheduled to have my wisdom teeth taken out on the 20th of July, I am also schedualed to have my reversal for my ileostomy on the 29th of July. Does anyone thing this is a bad thing to do?? Should I wait for the teeth to come out?? Could this cause any problems?? Thankx in advance!! — Jeff Goldband The Crohn’s and Colitis Meeting Place!! http://tor-pw1.netcom.ca/~popcorn/home.htm

Response:

I had a reverse situation.  2 months after my surgery I had lots of dental work.  I have old fillings and I had the back 2 teeth in each quadrant redone over a period of 4 days (Thurs., Fri., Mon., Tues.).  I was totally exhausted and asked the dentist how the freezing left the body and he said, even though it is a topical freezing, it is eliminated same as general anaesthetic.  Evidently a general takes awhile to work itself out of the body (a lot of work for the liver) so I suspect the dental freezing exaggerated what was still in my body.   My guess is that your dental work should not be a problem and it is probably better to do this work before the surgery.  It’s one less thing off your "to-do" list. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Response:

Jeff, I depends on how badly your wisdom teeth are impacted.  I’ve had three done.  Two of them were extremely painful.  One had to be dug out, and my face was swollen for days.  With that one, I was on continual pain medication for more than 2 weeks.  On the other hand, my husband had 2 removed and went back to work the same day.  His were very easy.  So I would ask your dentist what he anticipates.  If they’re very impacted, it might be better to wait till after your reversal heals up nicely before you undergo that kind of procedure. Hope this helps! Rita Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Share what you know. Learn what you don’t.

Jeff, nine days should allow your teeth to heal if you don.t have any complications.Cherri – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Jeff Goldband wrote: > Group, >     I am scheduled to have my wisdom teeth taken out on the 20th of July, I > am also schedualed to have my reversal for my ileostomy on the 29th of July. > Does anyone thing this is a bad thing to do??
