Artificial Anal Sphincter
Question:
Wow Barbara, Dr. Douglas Wong was my surgeon at Sloan. I went to him because my cancer was rectal and I had hopes because of all the work I heard he had done in the artificial/reconstructive area. He said that there is work that can be done if there is some muscle tissue left but in my case it all had to be removed. Response:
Dear Friends, My surgeon has suggested that I research the possibility of having an artificial anal sphincter to try to correct a 25 year history of fecal incontinence. I’ve had more conservative surgery 5 times and even had an ileostomy for a year (which is when I was part of this newsgroup). Has anyone had this surgery? Does anyone know of surgeons who are experienced in this area? Thanks in advance. Michelle

One of my previous asst. surgeons, Dr. Douglas Wong, was working on a magnetic artifical sphincter when he was here in the Twin Cities. He now lives in NYC and works at Sloan Kettering.
