Convatec Non-Drainable – Leaking

Categories: Colostomy Bag

Question:

I just started using the 2 piece non-drainable convatec with the charcoal filter to expel gas.  I have noticed that around the filter, there is alittle leakage. It doesn’t smell, just leaves a small stain on my undershirt..  I might have broken the filter because I was moving the bag around alot trying to get it on the flange.  Has anyone else has had this problem. It is a sign of poor quality control or no quality control.  Complain to ConvaTec _in writing_ and send a copy to FDA/MedWatch.

Response:

Do you have a colostomy or an ileostomy? The non-drainable pouches with filters are designed for colostomies – ileostomy output is too liquidy for those filters. One option would be to use non-drainable pouches without the built in filter. For gas release with these pouches, the Osto EZ Vent works well (available from Edgepark).
